Laura Koupal founded Koupal Law Firm, P.C. in 2012 and holds an AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America® (2024–2026) and Super Lawyers/5280 Magazine (2024–2026), and her firm has been included in Best Law Firms® (2025–2026).
Laura has practiced law for over 20 years, representing more than 2,000 clients in assisted reproductive technology (ART), adoption, LGBTQ+ and non-traditional family formation, estate planning, and complex divorce matters. She completed a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Christina M. Habas of Denver District Court.
She serves as Deputy ART Policy Director for the Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys (AAAA) and is a member of ASRM, RESOLVE, the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section, the Denver Bar Association, and the ABA Assisted Reproductive Technology Committee. Laura has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and accepts pro bono adoption clients through Metro Volunteer Lawyers. She helped draft and lobby the Colorado Surrogacy Agreement Act (HB 21-1022), signed into law in 2021.
Laura earned her B.S. from the University of Colorado and her J.D. from the University of Denver. Outside of work, she enjoys camping, fishing, skiing, tennis, and spending time with her husband and three teenage children, Charlie, Josie, and Sam.
